Another boxship from the fleet of Reederei Schepers has been sold to compatriot Nordic Hamburg.

The 3,380-teu Tim-S (built 2005) has been offloaded for just short of $7m, managing director Jan Schepers has confirmed.

It is the second ship of this design from the fleet of Bad Zwischenahn-based Schepers to be sold to Nordic Hamburg in as many months.

In May, the sister vessel Adelheid-S (built 2006) was sold to Nordic Hamburg for a similar price.

Schepers had a fleet of containerships from 2,500 teu to 4,200 teu and two supramax bulkers.

But the fleet has been shrinking after insolvency proceedings were initiated on some of the KG (limited partnership) owners of the ships.

Last year, the 4,256-teu Lena-S (renamed ALS Juventus, built 2010) and Rudolf Schepers (renamed ALS Juno, built 2009) were sold to the Bunnemann family's Asiatic Lloyd.

Bankruptcy petitions

Then in February, bankruptcy petitions were filed for three other KG-owned vessels in the Schepers fleet.

That included the sub-panamax Tim-S, and the 2,546-teu sisterships Anna-S and Johannes-S (both built 2008).

Charter rates for smaller containerships have failed to follow the recovery of larger ships.

Two-year charters for vessels of 2,500 teu and 3,500 teu are about 25% lower than this time last year.

They are currently below $10,000 per day, compared with more than $13,000 per day at the same point in 2018, according to the New ConTex index.

Separately, the Leonhardt & Blumberg-controlled, 1,118-teu BC Hamburg (built 2006) has been reported sold to German boxship owner Reederei Jens & Waller.

In May, the Drochtersen-based company acquired the sistership Jette (ex-Max Centaur, built 2007).

According to Alphaliner, Reederei Hinsch has also taken delivery of the 698-teu Max Partner (renamed Sunshine X, built 2008) and Max Pride (renamed Sunaid X, built 2006).
