Anglo International Shipping is expanding its fleet with a seven-year-old post-panamax bulker from Kambara Kisen of Japan.

Brokers said the company has purchased the 98,700-dwt Jo Jin Maru (built 2012) for $19.8m.

The Tsuneishi Group (Zhoushan) Shipbuilding-constructed vessel is due for special survey in June 2022, and the price is in line with expectations.

Low-key Anglo International told TradeWinds: “As a matter of policy we do not comment publicly on commercial matters of the company.” Kambara Kisen did not reply to requests for comment.

The purchase comes more than a year after Anglo International made an almost identical deal with Kambara Kisen, buying the sistership Ten Jin Maru (built 2011) for $21m. It has been renamed Anglo Marimar.

Not including the Jo Jin Maru, the fleet is made up of six kamsarmaxes and post-panamaxes.

Anglo International made its debut as a shipowner in October 2017, buying the Sainty Marine-built, 81,000-dwt bulkers Orient Fortune and Orient Hope (both built 2013) from GrandFame Ship Management of Hong Kong for $33.5m enbloc. This duo is probably worth $31m today.

The company has also concluded deals with Greek owner Golden Union with charter back to the seller.

The UK owner was set up in 2017 by “a group of shipping and finance market professionals”. “The company has developed into a recognised British dry bulk shipowner, backed by a growing private and institutional investor base,” Anglo International said in a statement.

Steven Davies, whose former roles include leading Graig Ship Management, is chief executive. Among other high-profile team members, former Pacific Basin man Andrew Broomhead is finance director and V.Ships executive director Bob Bishop is an advisor.
