Singapore-based owner Berge Bulk is set for another sale of a large bulker for demolition.

The 270,000-dwt ore carrier Berge Lhotse (built 1995) has been put on the market and is expected to be sold for scrap shortly, brokers said.

It will become the 10th large bulker that the James Marshall-led company has offloaded for recycling in less than two years. The ship is expected to fetch $15m.

The Berge Lhotse is set to arrive in Yantai, China, at the end of this month and could be sold "as is" to China or Singapore.

The vessel was purchased as Oriental Beauty from Coshipman of China in 2012. A sale for demolition is not entirely unexpected, as the Berge Lhotse is due for special survey in January next year.

Berge Bulk does not comment on commercial matters.

The company has been active in the sale and purchase market as a seller and a buyer.

This month, it reportedly bought the 176,500-dwt CSSC Wan Mei (built 2012) from CSSC Shipping for between $17.8m and $18.2m. This Chinese-built vessel is not due for special survey until November 2022.

It was the sixth capesize Berge Bulk has bought this year. It has a fleet of 78 bulkers on the water.

The company is also in the middle of an extensive newbuilding programme, which includes a number of newcastlemax bulkers under construction at Bohai Shipbuilding.
