Two bulk carriers owned by Diana Shipping have won new long-term contracts with major charterers.

Oldendorff Carriers has fixed Diana's 87,150-dwt post-panamax Electra (built 2013) for 11 to 13 months, which started on Friday, Diana said in a release on Friday.

The vessel is earning a gross charter rate of $10,250 per day, minus a 5% commission paid to third parties, which is a sizeable reduction on what the vessel was earning during its previous contract.

The Electra has spent the past year on charter to Uniper Global Commodities at a gross daily rate of $13,500.

Separately, Diana's 73,630-dwt panamax Protefs (built 2004) has been fixed to Phaethon International Company for a period of roughly 13 to 16 months.

The gross daily charter rate is $9,900, minus 5% commission, according to the New York-listed shipowner.

The minimum period of the charter ends on 1 January 2021 up to a maximum period of 31 March 2021.

The contract is expected to commence on 27 November, Diana said.

The vessel has been on charter to Chicago-based Hudson Shipping since September 2018, earning a gross daily rate of $11,000, minus 3.75% commission.
