A veteran general cargoship has been forced aground in a storm in Tunisia.

Local reports said a Togo-flagged vessel ended up on a beach in Bizerte.

Video footage shows it to be the 3,000-dwt Hamada S (built 1977), operated by Sayoss Shipping of Turkey.

The ship, with 10 crew, had arrived from Algeria more than two weeks ago and was destined for a repair yard, but was prevented from docking due to bad weather.

But heavy seas finally saw it drag its anchor.

The coast guard is at the scene and will try to refloat the vessel.
