Singapore’s Keppel Shipyard has emerged as a new cluster for coronavirus cases.

Three confirmed cases have now been linked to the 51 Pioneer Sector 1 site, Singapore’s Ministry of Health said.

They are a 34-year-old Singaporean, a 53-year-old man from the Philippines and a 50-year-old Dutch national.

About 100 Keppel Shipyard personnel who had direct contact with Covid-19 patients linked to the shipyard have been placed on a 14-day leave of absence, Singapore's Channel News Asia (CNA) reported.

Quoting an unnamed Keppel Shipyard spokesperson, CNA said two of patients were Keppel employees and were in hospital.

It added that two other Covid-19 cases among its customers were linked to the yard, but Keppel was "unable to comment on behalf of other companies".

“Keppel Shipyard has been in contact with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Manpower on these cases, and is assisting with contact tracing,” Keppel told local newspaper Today.

“We have also thoroughly deep-cleaned and disinfected the premises that the patients came into contact with, in accordance with National Environment Agency’s guidelines.”

A total of 1,049 people have been diagnosed with Covid-19 in Singapore as of Thursday, with five deaths.
