Two workers have been killed by a leak of "hydrocarbons" on a BW Offshore FPSO in Ivory Coast, the company said.

The Oslo-listed operator added the accident occurred on the 44,000-barrel-per-day Espoir Ivorien (built 1975) on Thursday afternoon.

The two men were working in a cargo tank when the leak took place.

The unit is operating on the Espoir field.

Next of kin have been informed and production has been shut down.

The leak has been contained within the cargo tank, and all other personnel accounted for, BW added.

The FPSO is operated by BW for CNR International.

Both companies are cooperating with local authorities in addressing the situation, BW said.

"This is a tragic day for the families of the men we have lost, and our hearts go out to them," added BW chief executive Marco Beenen.
