A Singapore-managed bulker has been damaged after hitting a dock in the Parana River in Argentina.
The 11 Noticias news website reported that the 70,000-dwt Surabaya Express (built 2013) struck a pier at the Molinos Agro dock in San Lorenzo on 8 January.
Video footage shows the Hong Kong-flag woodchip carrier reversing into the pier and emerging with a hole in its hull at the stern.
"No, no, no," a person is heard saying as the ship neared the pier.
"It made a hole," he said after the Surabaya Express made contact with the dock.
The dock was not badly damaged.
The bulker is managed by Nova Shipping & Logistics of Singapore, which has been contacted for further information.
Turn attempted?
The report said the vessel was attempting a turn in the river at kilometre marker 434.
The Transporte & Comercio Exterior news site reported that the Surabaya Express may have suffered a mechanical fault while carrying out the manoeuvre.
The ship had left the previous day from Zarate and arrived at the quay to load a cargo. Now the hull will have to be repaired before it can resume operations.
About 40 ships were reported in the port area, with a further 18 due to arrive. But it is not clear how much operations have been affected.
The Surabaya Express has cover with North P&I Club and has no port state control detentions on its record.
