A huge CMA CGM containership has been cleared of coronavirus following tests on board.

The 16,020-teu CMA CGM Marco Polo (built 2012) had remained at anchor since Monday morning outside Algeciras.

This was due to an order by the port captain.

The vessel's master had earlier reported that a crew member had coronavirus symptoms.

The pilot on board then contacted the port to initiate quarantine protocols.

The vessel was ordered to change course and anchor in front of Punta de San Garcia.

Health authorities were continuing to evaluate the situation on Tuesday.

CMA CGM told TradeWinds: "There is no Covid-19 case on the CMA CGM Marco Polo, confirmed by the sanitation authorities.

"All necessary measures have been taken by CMA CGM to ensure the safety and health of its employees, both on land and sea."

It added: "Since the beginning of the Covid-19 crisis, there has been no Covid-19 case in the CMA CGM entire fleet."

TradeWinds reported on Monday that tests had come back positive for a crewman on a Bluewater floating production, storage and offloading vessel off Shetland in Scotland, and for six crew on a Marine Platforms offshore support vessel off Nigeria.
