Taiwan's Yang Ming Marine Transport has set up a new subsidiary agency company in China with unnamed partners.

Huan Ming (Shanghai) International Shipping Agency will be based in Shanghai from 1 January.

"With the establishment of Huan Ming, Yang Ming is confident that its image will be further strengthened and the resources in China better integrated to reasonably reduce operating costs and improve operating efficiency," the company said.

China accounts for a large share of Yang Ming’s total cargo volume.

"With the addition of a new member joining THE Alliance in the upcoming year, Yang Ming will be poised to significantly strengthen its service portfolio and increase its competitiveness," it added.

The new operating model will integrate business in southern China, which was previously overseen by Yang Ming’s subsidiary in Hong Kong.

Huan Ming is setting up 14 other offices in cities like Qingdao, Tianjin and Xiamen.
