CNC, the intra-Asia shortsea brand of APL, has announced plans for an expansion of its North East Asia – South East Asia service.

The Taiwanese-based shipowner said the new service will link ports in its home country with those of Japan.

“With the service, CNC will expand its extensive port coverage in Japan to Yokkaichi at the center of the Japanese archipelago,” the shipowner said.

“While it will be characterised by its direct connectivity between Yokkaichi and Taiwan, it also promises direct shipments between the ports of Taiwan’s three most populous cities and Japan’s three largest metropolis.”

The service will commence sailing on 19 December from the port of Taichung with port calls in Taipei, Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya, Yokkaichi, Taipei, Taichung and Kaohsiung.

In August, CMA CGM unified its intra-Asian liner services when CNC and APL short-sea operations under the CNC brand.

“We are now entering the next phase of merging our agency network which will be completed by the end of the third quarter of 2019,” it said at the time.

Headquartered in Singapore, CNC will be a top three carrier in this market, with 50 vessels covering 60 services, said Till Ole Barrelet, CNC managing director.

Countries include Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Russia, Singapore and South Korea.
