Norway's Boreal Transport is renewing its fleet with a debut order in Turkey for three electric ro-paxes.

Sedef Gemi in Tuzla said it is building a ship that can carry 60 vehicles and 250 passengers, and two more of 399-pax and 120-vehicle capacity.

It described them as "environmentally friendly and advanced technology projects with a total installed capacity of 2016 kWh, zero emissions."

Clarksons said delivery is set for 2021. No price has been revealed.

The smaller ship is 2,000 gt and the other two are 3,000 gt.

The Hammerfest owner has 40 operational ferries, plus another two on order in addition to the latest trio.

Some of its existing ships date back to the 1960s and 1970s.

The vessels, to be operated by the Boreal Sjo unit, are the only ones listed in the yard's orderbook.
