Carnival Corp has appointed two new leaders for Holland America Line and Carnival Cruise Line from within while taking a broad look at the entire company.

Arnold Donald-led Carnival promoted Carnival Cruise Line chief operating officer Gus Antorcha to the role of president, with immediate effect.

Carnival has also named Costa Cruises president Neil Palomba as executive vice president and chief operations officer for Carnival Cruise Line to replace Antorcha.

"We are using this pause in guest operations to evaluate every aspect of our business, including our leadership structures, and make changes where appropriate to improve our business," Carnival Corp chief executive Donald said in a statement.

Antorcha replaces Orlando Ashford, who resigned at the end of May after serving as president since November 2014. Richard Meadows, meanwhile, left five-ship brand Seabourn as president after 35 years with Carnival.

TradeWinds reported these personnel moves in mid-May.

Stein Kruse remains at the helm of Holland America Group

Antorcha will report directly to Stein Kruse, group chief executive of Holland America Group and Carnival UK.

Antorcha held several leadership roles with Carnival Cruise Line over the past nine years that also include executive vice president of guest services and senior vice president of guest commerce.

He previously served as a partner and managing director for Boston Consulting Group.

Palomba will report to Carnival Cruise Line president Christine Duffy in his new chief operating officer role for Carnival Corp's largest brand with 26 ships.

Michael Thamm, chief executive of Costa Group and Carnival Asia, will also serve as interim Costa Cruises president while looking for Palomba's replacement.

In mid-June, TradeWinds reported that Costa Cruises was selling 75,200-gt Costa Victoria (built 1996) to Italy’s San Giorgio del Porto Shipyard as part of Carnival's broader plan to offload several ships.

Palomba has been Costa Cruises' president since February 2015. He previously served as senior vice president of hotel operations and guest experience since January 2014.

He has held other executive roles in the cruise sector and was once a second officer on a cruiseship.

"Gus and Neil are both proven and strategic leaders within our organisation, and we are looking forward to their contributions and success in these new roles as we position our company and our brands for a bright future," Donald said.
