Bocimar of Belgium has taken advantage of rising dry bulk asset values with the sale of a post-panamax bulker.

Managing director Benoit Timmermans confirmed the company has sold the 93,000-dwt Nadine Venture (built 2011).

He declined to comment on the price and on reports the Shanhaiguan Shipyard-built vessel has gone to a Ukrainian buyer.

Sources claimed the company had achieved $17.7m for the ship, which represents an increase on recent deals for such vessels.

Early last month, another Chinese-built post-panamax, the 92,000-dwt Tansanit (built 2011), was sold for $17.2m.

Asked why Bocimar is now selling, Timmermans said: “It is an opportunistic move.”

The Nadine Venture, which is due for special survey in August 2021, was ordered in 2008 through a 50/50 joint venture between Bocimar and Wah Kwong Maritime Transport in Hong Kong.

The joint venture ordered the vessel with the sistership Lara Venture (built 2011) at the peak of the market for $52.8m each.

In 2014, the companies decided to split their ownership stakes so that Bocimar took the Nadine Venture and Wah Kwong claimed the Lara Venture.
