John Davison is departing as chief executive of turnaround specialist Pillarstone.

Former Royal Bank of Scotland executive Davison co-founded Pillarstone in 2015 with KKR and is now leaving to pursue other opportunities, a statement said.

Following Davison’s exit, Gaudenzio Bonaldo Gregori will lead the Italian side of the business, while Dan Haxby will take the helm in London and Greece.

Davison will remain a director of Pillarstone for a transitional period in 2019, a statement said.

Calls to Pillarstone's office in London were not answered during the Christmas holiday period.

Pillarstone is best known in shipping as the backer of Premuda, with former Frontline Management chief Jens Martin Jensen leading turnaround efforts.

Pillarstone also owns some of the debt carried by RBD Armatori, which will see a fleet of 13 tankers and bulkers auctioned off in February.
