Former Braemar Shipping Services finance director Louise Evans has returned to shipping after quitting the shipbroker in 2018.

The experienced accountant is joining the board of the International Foundation For Aids To Navigation (IFAN).

IFAN said Evans, who has also worked at a senior level in Formula 1, brings "considerable experience" to the board.

She is currently a non-executive director and audit committee chair of AB Dynamics and Gooch & Housego, and is also a board advisor to SCB Group.

IFAN chief executive Peter Stanley said: "We are pleased to welcome Louise to the board."

"Louise brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role, not only through her previous position as group finance director roles at Braemar Shipping Services and Williams Grand Prix Holdings, but also through the senior positions she held at RPS Group and Reynard Motorsport," he added.

Mutual decision

Braemar was tight-lipped at the time about her departure two years ago, after details emerged of a pay-off that totalled around £500,000 ($650,000).

The shipbroker announced she would leave following a "mutual decision … to pursue other interests" three years after joining the broker in June 2015 from the Williams team.

Braemar's chief executive at the time, James Kidwell, told TradeWinds that a confidentially agreement prevented him from talking about the details of her departure.

Headquartered in London, IFAN’s objective is to promote safety at sea and protect the marine environment through funding global aids to navigation initiatives.

Its subsidiary – Middle East Navigation Aids Service (MENAS) – has been providing navigational services in the Middle East Gulf since 1911 as no state owns the aids to navigation in the joint waters of the Gulf.

Evans qualified as a chartered accountant with Ernst & Young before rising to be group finance director of Williams Grand Prix Holdings.
