Christos Economou-controlled TMS Cardiff Gas has confirmed a newbuilding charter to energy major Total - and said it is looking to order more new vessels.

The company revealed it had entered into a minimum seven-year deal for one of its 11 X Carrier vessels on order in South Korea.

The 174,000-cbm ship has XDF propulsion and a sub-cooling system.

It is being built at Samsung Heavy Industries.

Founder Economou said: "This is another long term deal in this series of sister vessels with efficient XDF propulsion and sets the stage for the company’s further growth with significant long term coverage and backlog”.

TMS Cardiff Gas also appeared to confirm a TradeWinds report that said it was looking to order more ships: "The company continues its long term employment strategy on its LNG vessels. The company is looking to expand its portfolio in the 2022/23 time-frame."

Current deliveries run through to 2021.

TradeWinds had also reported that Total had chartered the shipowner's only remaining unfixed carrier for more than three years with options.

The two companies have paired before on LNG tonnage, with Total taking a newbuilding from the Greek owner at the end of 2017 on a seven-year charter at a rate in the region of $63,500 per day.
