Gard has taken on former Thomas Miller claims executive Alexandra Couvadelli to boost its London-based claims and defence team.
Couvadelli is a well-known figure in Piraeus P&I circles where she worked for Thomas Miller — manager of the UK P&I Club and UK Defence Club — for 29 years becoming senior claims director, before leaving earlier this year.
She has now been taken on as a senior lawyer in Gard’s London claims and defence team.
Gard London managing director, Magne Nilsen, said “We are delighted to have Alexandra joining our team and look forward to working with her.”
Couvadelli’s appointment is the second senior claims and legal hire in London this year by Gard, the shipping industry’s leading P&I insurer.
In March it appointed Julian Clark, former head of shipping at London law firm Ince, as vice president and senior legal advisor of Gard’s London legal team.
In a separate marine insurance move, Nick Lockyer has joined broker Miller’s direct marine team.
Lockyer was formerly managing director of marine at rival broker Marsh.
Miller has been expanding in marine recently, also adding Lee Bright from Marsh and Craig Dennis from Ambrey to its marine business.
