Hellenic Hull Management managing director Ilias Tsakiris has been appointed as the chair of International Union of Marine Insurance’s (IUMI) Ocean Hull Committee.

Tsakiris takes over from QBE head of marine Rama Chandran and is the first representative from the Greek or Cyprus insurance markets to lead an IUMI committee.

IUMI’s Ocean Hull Committee identifies risk trends around the hull insurance market.

Tsakiris, a former master mariner, joined Limassol and Piraeus-based Hellenic Hull Management in 1995.

Hellenic Hull Management manages P&I club mutual the American Club's European operation, American Club (Europe).

Hellenic Hull was one of the first marine insurers to embrace sustainable insurance principles and is a founding member of the Poseidon Principles for Marine Insurance.

“I am committed to continuing the exceptional work of my predecessor Rama Chandran, and to support the initiatives of newly-elected president of IUMI, Frederic Denefle,” said Tsakiris.

Gard vice president of underwriting in London Jun Lin has also taken on the role of head of IUMI’s facts and figures committee. Lin takes over from former Chaucer head of marine Philip Graham.
