Icelandic container line Eimskip has won one legal battle in its ongoing quest to end a long-running competition probe

The company has been battling at Reykjavik district court to cease the investigation by the Icelandic Competition Authority (ICA).

Eimskip made two applications in court.

The first was that the probe is illegal and should be ceased.

This was rejected.

But its second demand, that seized documents from two dawn raids should be returned and all copies destroyed, was accepted by the court.

The shipowner will go to the court of appeal to contest the first decision, but "otherwise welcomes the ruling," it said.

Former Eimskip CEO Gylfi Sigfusson is also fighting in the courts to halt the investigation, claiming his human rights were breached.

The ICA has been looking into Eimskip since 2010.

In 2013, the company said its headquarters and premises occupied by its subsidiaries Eimskip Island and TVG-Zimsen were searched by the ICA.

The substance of the probe has never been revealed.
