Global shipping firm Clyde & Co has appointed a new head of finance and banking for Greater China.

It said Fei Kwok will help strengthen the company at a time when it is trying to capitalise on the growth potential of banking and finance, particularly in light of the Belt & Road Initiative (BRI) and the Greater Bay Area (GBA) agenda.

Kwok is a specialist in asset and project finance with a special focus on transport and energy projects such as oil and gas, including LNG.

She has been based in Shanghai and Beijing for the last 13 years, but was previously in London for more than 10 years.

Simon McConnell, Hong Kong managing partner at Clyde & Co, said: "We are pleased to have Fei joining our Greater China team, where she'll play an important role in strengthening our ties to key mainland enterprises."

"We envisage the Belt & Road Initiative will continue to provide a significant client pipeline."

Clyde & Co's Asia managing director Ik Wei Chong added: "Fei is respected for her deep client relationships and technical expertise. We're delighted she'll be joining our Greater China presence.

"Fei's many years of experience acting as outside counsel for commercial corporations and financial institutions will be of great value."

Kwok is fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese and English.

She said she was excited to be joining Clyde & Co: "Its solid practice and outreach in international dispute resolutions, insurance, construction and infrastructure sectors is complementary to our transport and project finance practice, and will bring great value to China financial institutions and corporations that are doing business or are looking to establish operations overseas."

On Monday, rival HFW said it was recruiting lawyer Christopher Metcalf from Clyde & Co.
