Punit Oza has been appointed as the new executive director of the Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration (SCMA).

The former Torvald Klaveness senior executive is set to take up the post on 1st March. He replaces Dennis Chan, who left the post in late December.

A veteran of the dry bulk sector and the Singapore shipping scene, Oza has been a member of the SCMA since 2014.

Oza sits on the board of directors for Klaveness Asia as a non-executive director and has had stints at Precious Shipping, Noble Chartering, Astra Shipping and Aries Shipbroking.

The SCMA appointment adds to several posts he already holds in Singapore including a board member of the Singapore Maritime Foundation.

He is also a senior adjunct fellow for the MPA Academy and chairman of the Singapore branch of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers.

“I really want to try and bring some visibility and profiling for SCMA going forward,” he told TradeWinds in a comment on his appointment.

The SCMA was originally established in November 2004. Its funding comes from the Singapore Maritime Foundation.

Management of SCMA is overseen by a board of directors which is led by chairman, senior judge Chao Hick Tin.

Last year marked the 10th anniversary of SCMA as the centre for non-administered maritime arbitration in Asia.
