Wyker Dampfschiffs-Reederei Fohr-Amrum (WDR) has sold one of its ferries to a group of businesses owned by a Greek family that owns Cretan Daily Cruises.
The German ferry operator has offloaded Rungholt to the undisclosed Greek buyers in Kissamos, a town on the Greek island of Crete. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Calls to Wyker were not immediately returned.
Wyker used the ship with a 1.95-metre draft to carry a maximum of 53 cars and 1,190 passengers for 26 years for its Wadden Sea lifeline service off northern Germany.
The Greek consortium will sail the ship as a day cruise vessel from Cretan ports to nearby islands under the Greek flag.
It will be sent shortly to the Mediterranean Sea under a new name, Wyker said.
The Rungholt will undergo a "thorough modernisation and a partial rebuilding" under the new owners, who have been active in day cruising since 1995.
The Rungholt was replaced in May 2018 by newbuilt double-end ferry Norderaue.
