London International Shipping Week was brought to a jubilant end last Friday with the annual Spinnaker Dragon Boat Race, which raised more than £155,000 ($191,000) — and counting.

Funds from this year's race, which was held in London's Docklands, have helped the Ocean and Shipping Community Advancing Children's Health and Research (OSCAR) Campaign raise more than £2m over the past six years.

Competitive

The OSCAR Campaign raises cash for Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) and the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health (ICH) and is the brainchild of Phil Parry, chairman of marine recruiter Spinnaker Global.

Parry's son Oscar, who attended the race on Friday, had leukaemia twice and endured three transplants before being cured by some pioneering research at GOSH.

The event was won by the Borealis Maritime team, who were joined by chief executive Christoph Toepfer, in a time of one minute 15 seconds.

Second place went to the Lomar Shipping team and Swire Bulk finished third.

Golar LNG had four teams competing in the event, one of which — Golar Grand — finished in fourth place, beating the team from AM Nomikos by 0.27 seconds.
