Floatel International, the tie up between private equity group Oaktree and Singapore’s Keppel Corp, has tied up employment for its latest newbuilding.

US oil major Chevron has agreed to charter the Floatel Triumph for work in the Wheatstone field in Western Australia.

The semi-submersible accommodation vessel is due to arrive on location in mid-October 2016. Thereafter, it will work for INPEX Operations Australia in Ichthys Field, off Western Australia.

The Floatel Triumph is the fifth high-specification accommodation vessel delivered to Floatel International by Keppel FELS.

“Despite the low oil price environment, Floatel was able to secure charters for Floatel Triumph and this is a strong indication of the market’s preference for the reliable and superior performance that Keppel-designed rigs bring,” said Keppel FELS managing director Chris Ong.

“We have worked closely with Floatel to ensure the semi meets all the requirements of Chevron in the Wheatstone field.”

Keppel FELS previously delivered the Floatel Superior, Floatel Reliance, Floatel Victory and Floatel Endurance, to Floatel.

In contrast Axis Offshore recently agreed to delay delivery of its offshore accommodation vessel building at Cosco Qidong Offshore for another twelve months until August 2017.
