Icon Offshore’s chief operating officer captain Hassan Bin Ali is set to move on from the Malaysian offshore vessel operator.

The 62-year-old Malaysian has resigned from the company to pursue personal and family matters, Icon said in a financial filing.

His last day in the office will be 1 January 2020, the company added. The shipowner has yet to name a replacement.

Captain Hassan took over as managing director of the company on a temporary basis in October 2017 following the departure of then managing director Amir Hamzah Azizan.

However, a new permanent managing director – industry veteran industry veteran Seri Hadian Hashim – was appointed in August this year.

Captain Hassan began his career as a cadet officer with MISC in 1975 and left in 1988 to join the Malaysian Maritime Academy as a nautical lecturer.

In 1990, he spent less than a year at Petronas Carigali as a cargo supervisor, before returning to the Malaysian Maritime Academy as a senior nautical lecturer and also held the position of department head before leaving in 1995.

He then had stints at Petrokapal, OOCL Malaysia, Regship Services and Gugusan Maritime where his responsibilities included overseeing the dry bulk and edible cargo chartering operations.

He joined Tanjung Offshore Services in 2004 and was subsequently appointed as chief executive of Tanjung Kapal Services (TKS).

Following the completion of the strategic consolidation in 2012, between Omni Petromaritime and TKS following which he assumed the position of chief corporate officer and deputy chief executive. In 2015, he was appointed to his current post at Icon Offshore Berhad.
