Norway's GC Rieber Shipping is seeking new business opportunities after sealing a second vessel disposal since the summer.

The Oslo-listed owner said an unnamed buyer is taking over the 110-loa inspection maintenance and repair vessel Polar Queen (built 2011) in March.

The gangway on the ship, which can also operate in the walk-to-work sector, is excluded from the sale and will remain an asset for GC Rieber's three other ships.

VesselsValue assesses the Polar Queen as worth $16.85m.

GC Rieber said the deal will boost liquidity by NOK 22m ($2.6m) after repayment of vessel debt.

The vessel is leaving the offshore industry, GC Rieber said. The company has been contacted for further information.

"This is the second sale of vessels since August 2020 and provides GC Rieber Shipping with a further strengthened balance sheet, enabling us to deliver on our strategy to develop new profitable and sustainable maritime projects." said chief executive Einar Ytredal.

Polar King gone to Greece

The 110-loa IMR ship Polar King (built 2011) was offloaded last summer.

The company logged an impairment of $5m on the deal.

The ship is now listed as owned by Assodivers of Greece. Shipbroker Clarksons reports it as idle.

GC Rieber also said on Monday that DeepOcean has agreed to extend the charter of the 130-loa MSV Polar Onyx (built 2014) until the end of May.

The extended period will be in direct continuation of the charter in Ghana, which started in January 2018.
