Private Norwegian owner Ostensjo Rederi's Edda Accommodation has cancelled a monohull accommodation ship being built at Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) due to major delays.

Edda CEO Johan Rokstad confirmed the move to the Haugalandnytt website: “They did not deliver on time and passed all cancellation dates. Thus we had the option to cancel.”

The ship, worth more than $200m, was due in June 2015.

Rokstad called the outcome "sad". The company is now going to arbitration over the contract in London.

The ship would have housed 800 workers.

Edda will now have to cover some contracts with a 2011-built vessel.

The original order had an optional second floatel attached.
