Asian offshore legend Venkatraman Sheshashayee has returned to shipping as the chief executive of Singapore-listed AMOS Group.

He succeeds Dan Tan Song Boon who has resigned as CEO and is leaving AMOS to “pursue other opportunities”.

TradeWinds understands that Sheshashayee’s appointment is in an acting capacity at AMOS, which describes itself as a “supplier of products, services, and solutions to the marine and energy industries”.

A statement issued by the company on Monday said that Sheshashayee has been tasked to lead AMOS’ strategy to “transform and grow by improving operational efficiency, driving modernization and deepening customer touchpoints”.

Sheshayee retired from the shipping industry as CEO of Singapore-based offshore player Miclyn Express Offshore in April 2018 after a tenure lasting just under four years.

Prior to that he had spearheaded the turnaround of ailing offshore operator and shipyard group Jaya Holdings, reviving the debt-ridden company that was under judicial management, rebuilding its brand, and then orchestrating its sale at a significant profit to its private equity shareholders.

He is best known for launching Great Eastern Shipping’s offshore arm Greatship Global where, over a six-year period, he built the company from scratch into a large international player.

When he first revealed his retirement, Sheshashayee told TradeWinds that he intended to take on the role of educator, mentoring new generations of business professionals.

Commenting on his return to an active role in shipping, he said: “It is my privilege to join AMOS and be part of this amazing team and transformation. AMOS has a long and proud track record of providing world-class technical supplies and services to the marine and offshore industries and I look forward to contributing to the continued success of this great business.”

AMOS executive chairman Kyle Shaw added that he was delighted that Sheshashayee would lead the company during its next phase of transformation and growth.

He described Sheshashayee as a “strong leader” and said he was confident that “he has the management skills, industry knowledge and understanding of our customers to lead the business forward”.

AMOS currently operates production, logistics and fulfillment centers across Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. It claims to have in Singapore “the leading and most technologically advanced fulfilment and solutions center in Southeast Asia and China”.
