Experienced Greek shipbroker Vassilios Mouyis is returning as a director at the Navios Group.

The co-founder and managing director of Doris Shiprokers will join the board of US-listed shipowner Navios Maritime Partners.

He is replacing lawyer Orthodoxia Zisimatou, who is retiring.

Mouyis has more than 34 years of experience in the shipping industry and was previously a director at Navios Maritime Midstream Partners and Navios Maritime Containers.

He was formerly a chartering broker at Clarksons’ office in South Africa and has a degree in economics from the American College of Greece and a post-graduate diploma in port and shipping administration from the University of Wales Institute of Science and Technology.

Navios Partners chief executive Angeliki Frangou said: “We thank Mrs Zisimatou for her valuable contribution and input to the company. We wish her well in her future ventures.”

She added: “We are also delighted with the appointment of Mr Mouyis, as we believe his deep understanding of the shipping industry will prove valuable.”

Zisimatou became a director in 2017.

She has been a shipping lawyer since 1998, focusing on sale and purchase contracts and contracts of affreightment.

Conflicts committee

Zisimatou has been a maritime arbitrator at the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping since 2007 and secretary general of the Union of Piraeus Shipping Lawyers since 2009.

While serving on the Navios board, the independent director has been a member of Navios Partners’ conflicts committee.

This scrutinises related party dealings in the group, including ship management and administrative services provided by Frangou’s private Navios Shipmanagement, which she purchased from New York-listed Navios Maritime Holdings in 2019.

“Navios Partners has one of the highest standards because we have a conflicts committee that is hard-wired,” the CEO told TradeWinds last year.
