MOL Chemical Tankers celebrated its takeover of Nordic Tankers with a cocktail party at London's iconic "Gherkin" building at the end of August.

"Our mission is to always carry and deliver the cargoes safely without any contamination or mixed products," said chief executive Tsuneo Watanabe in a speech.

"However, tonight we have decided to make an exception, and we are offering you a special MOL Chemical Tankers mixed cocktail," he told guests, before raising a toast, at the building officially known as 30 St Mary Axe.

2020 completion

MOL Nordic Tankers will be fully merged into MOL Chemical Tankers next year, which Watanabe said would allow the company to expand within the Western hemisphere and support its "ambitious growth strategy".

Outside of shipping, the last 12 months have seen MOL Chemical Tankers invest in shore-side chemical and oil logistics.

This has included building its first tank storage terminal in Antwerp as part of a joint venture, and investing in tank container company Den Hartogh.

Watanabe said the expansion would help position the shipping company as a one-stop service provider for its customers worldwide.
