It is that time of year again when brokers at Simpson Spence Young (SSY) don matching T-shirts and get active.

About 100 of them from the company’s offices in London, Singapore, Mumbai, Shanghai, Copenhagen, Stamford, Houston, Oslo and Sydney joined in a super-sprint triathlon to raise some cash for a good cause.

The Singapore trio of Alex Charavgis, Jack Turner and Ashely Leek took the fastest-team prize. Charavgis completed the 400-metre swim in six minutes 54 seconds, Turner finished the 10km cycle in 16 minutes four seconds and Leek completed the 2km run in nine minutes 32 seconds.

UK-based dry cargo broker and former Ironman competitor Fie Hansen came in as the top-placed female athlete, finishing 15th overall with an impressive seventh-fastest swim time of seven minutes 54 seconds, while clocking 19 minutes 58 seconds on the bike and 16 minutes 20 seconds on the run.

Sylvia Bater of the dry cargo chartering department said: “The triathlon provides a great opportunity to do something beneficial for your health and for charity. Each year, it creates a great camaraderie among the staff as well as some healthy competition with the other international offices.”

The triathletes raised £18,200 ($22,700) for Cancer Research — which included a donation from the Baltic Exchange Charitable Foundation.

SSY chairman Mark Richardson said: "This was another fantastic event to raise money for a worthwhile cause that has affected so many of us. It was great to see so many people take part from across our organisation, getting involved in doing something positive together that also gives something back."
