Tidewater has added a new director, bringing its board back to seven.

The Houston offshore giant said this week that Darron Anderson, the current chief executive of Ranger Energy Services, would be joining its board of directors effective immediately.

"I’m honoured to have the opportunity to join Tidewater’s board, and I look forward to helping guide the company’s strategy as it navigates the current market and works to enhance its already leading market position," Anderson said.

"I’m excited to be part of a company with such a recognised and respected history as Tidewater, a leader in the OSV [offshore support vessel] sector that has consistently demonstrated the ability to adapt to changing market conditions."

Anderson has New York-traded Ranger since March 2017. He had previously spent seven years as chief executive of Express Energy Services, and had also worked as an engineer at Chevron.

He has a degree in petroleum engineering from the University of Texas, Austin.

Late last year, Tidewater cut its board of directors from 10 to eight, then to seven at the request of activist investor Bob Robotti of New York's Robotti & Co.

In July, at the company's annual meeting, six directors were elected, including chief executive Quintin Kneen, current chairman Larry Rigdon and International Seaways chief executive Lois Zabrocky.

Rigdon called Anderson a "seasoned executive" with "broad, hands-on operational experience".

"We are very pleased to welcome Darron to Tidewater and look forward to his contributions to our future success," he said.

"This appointment represents the latest step in Tidewater’s continuous effort to align the board and management with the objective of maximising long-term shareholder value."
