A livestock carrier suffering a "bent" and cracked hull has been barred from Paris Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control (Paris MOU) ports.

The organisation said the 3,100-dwt Uranus II (built 1992) was detained in Midia, Romania, in January, its third detention within the last 36 months.

It was held for three days with 22 deficiencies

Equasis lists the structural fault as hull cracking, with the specific defect given only as "bent."

The ship flies the flag of Sierra Leone, which is black on the current Paris MOU list.

It has now been banned for three months.

The ship was also detained due to a lack of training in fire drills and an inoperative echo sounder.

The vessel is operated by Uranus Denizcilik Sanayi of Istanbul, Turkey.

It is classed by Overseas Marine Certification Services.

General cargoship also banned

Meanwhile, Paris MOU has also banned the 2,100-dwt cargoship Rafaelo I (built 1985) for three months after its third inspection failure in three years.

It was held in Ravenna, Italy, for five days with 32 deficiencies.

In fact, the ship had been detained three times in little over a year, including another detention in Ravenna.

Equasis records missing or inadequate crew certificates, as well as missing records of rest, a lack of training in fire drills, and a faulty fire pump.

Other grounds for detention included blocked means of escape and damaged cargo and other hatchways, as well as a deficient AIS system.

The vessel's flag state of Albania is also on the Paris MOU black list.

It is operated by Rafaelo 2002 JSC of Albania.
