An Eletson panamax tanker was among seven ships detained in the UK in December after failing port state control (PSC) inspections.

The 74,999-dwt Keros (built 2004) was stopped on the 4 December 2019 at the port of Immingham, according to the UK Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA).

PSC inspectors found that the Greek-flagged vessel’s emergency generator was “not as required” and subsequently had the vessel detained.

The vessel, which is classed by Lloyd’s Register, was eventually released on 6 December 2019, the MCA confirmed.

A defective emergency generator also resulted in Fujian Ocean Ship Management’s kamsarmax bulker Zheng Zhi (built 2013).

The 81,804-dwt ship was also detained at the port of Immingham on 31 December, before being released early in the New Year.

Among the other ships detained last month was Mediterranean Bulk Holding’s 15,332-dwt bulker MBC Daisy (built 2011) which was stopped in the port of Birkenhead.

The Panama-flagged vessel was found to have 12 deficiencies with six said to be sufficient grounds for detention, according to the MCA.

Defects included a failure to meet ISM requirments, liferaft stowage and provision, invalid seafarer employment agreement, cleanliness and the non-payment of wages.

The ship was still under detention at the northeast-based port at the end of December, according to the MCA.
