A Chinese warship collided with a Taiwanese bulk carrier Wednesday night, according to Taiwan's authorities.

Taiwan's Coast Guard Administration said the unidentified warship, under command of People's Liberation Army, and Kaohsiung-registered bulk carrier Yutai No. 1 hit each other in the Taiwan Strait, Taiwan News has reported.

The accident, which damaged the cargo ship, occurred 19.5 miles southeast of Taiwan's Kinmen Island off China's southeast coast, according to the coast guard.

None of the crew were injured in the collision.

An email to the coast guard was not returned.

The coast guard sent two patrol boats to the scene and set up a response center at about 2100 local time, according to Taiwan News. The Yutai No. 1 was escorted to Liaolou Port soon after 2200.

The Chinese warship was also damaged in the collision but refused to stop and allow inspection and ended communications with the Taiwanese bulker, Taiwan News reported.

It returned to Xiamen Port for repairs.

The incident, which happened amid Chinese threats to reclaim Taiwan, is under investigation.
