A Corsica Linea ro-pax has been diverted to Toulon after being battered by a huge wave off France.

The 30,000-gt Jean Nicoli (built 1998) was bound for Ajaccio from Marseille on 6 March when it ran into winds of 50 knots, French media said.

It was hit by a 10-metre wave 20 miles south of Toulon.

A window was smashed and water ingress damaged navigational and engine control equipment.

With no radar, it headed into Toulon on 7 March at a low speed.

A total of 50 passengers were safely disembarked.

The ship has been moved into a berth for repairs.
