Two bulker crew have died and two more were injured during tank cleaning on a bulker off Brazil.

Croatian owner Atlantska Plovidba said the incident happened on Wednesday on its 39,000-dwt AP Dubrava (built 2015).

The two injured men were taken by helicopter to hospital.

Another seafarer who was not directly involved in the incident has also been taken to hospital, probably due to stress, the shipowner said.

The accident happened while a tank was being rinsed out, it added.

The company denied media reports that there were a series of explosions on the ship.

Flag state the Marshall Islands will now investigate.

The families of the crew have been informed.

"We have ensured essential assistance to the ship's commander and crew upon arrival in Tubarao, Brazil, and have sent an official from the company's headquarters to Brazil as support," the company added.
