Ship management giant V.Group has appointed an experienced former Shell executive as a new director.

Jabine van der Meijs has joined from 1 September and will help accelerate the company’s growth strategy.

She was most recently chief financial officer and executive vice president of Dutch airport company Royal Schiphol Group for four years, but spent nearly 25 years at oil major Shell before that.

The new recruit finished at Shell as a vice president of finance.

“Van der Meijs brings significant commercial, financial and governance experience having held a number of senior roles and non-executive directorships in the energy, transportation and logistics industries,” V.Group said.

V.Group chairman Graham Westgarth added: “The experience and knowledge she has gleaned over many years will be of great benefit to V.Group. I am sure she will add value both as a non-executive director and in her future role as audit committee chair.”

Westgarth explained that V.Group has set out “a solid strategy” for growth.

“We are well on the way to achieving key milestones. The addition of Jabine to the board of directors will assist in accelerating the delivery of our strategy and the associated results,” he added

Van der Meijs said it is a particularly exciting time to be joining V.Group, not least because the company is pursuing an ambitious strategy for growth that is based on building strong partnerships with customers that consistently deliver added value.

“I like this ethos and look forward to playing my part in helping ensure the company delivers,” she added.

Chinese expansion

V.Group also said that SeaTec, its technical services division, has opened a second office in China.

Located in Nantong, the office will further improve the competitiveness of the group there, including site supervision, engineering, on-board safety training, underwater repair, monitoring and vessel inspections.

“The move is a clear sign of V.Group’s commitment to the Chinese market, coming six years after it opened an office in Shanghai,” the group said.

Elliot Gow, CEO of Marine Services at V.Group, added: “China is playing an increasingly important role in the global maritime industry and Nantong is a particularly vibrant and growing area.”

“This new office has been opened in direct response to increasing demand for our services in the region. In fact, we are already having to recruit more staff to cope with the immediate demand we have seen,” he said.
