Braemar Shipping Services chief executive James Kidwell is retiring after 17 years at the London broker.

The company said Kidwell's last day will be 27 July.

Braemar's divisional CEOs will report directly to chairman Ron Series, who will become executive chairman on an interim basis.

Series said: "James joined Braemar in 2002 and spent a decade as group finance director before becoming chief executive in 2012.

"During his time with Braemar he has played a significant part in the development of the group, including the merger with ACM, the acquisition of Naves and most recently the divestment of the technical division to Aqualis to form AqualisBraemar.

"We thank James very much for his contribution and wish him well for the future."

Kidwell added: "I have much enjoyed spending a significant part of my career at Braemar working in the shipping services industry.

"Having recently delivered the structural change we were seeking, I believe it is now the right time to step down. I wish the talented Braemar team all the best for the future."

Director appointment

The Aqualis deal this year saw the sale of three business lines from the technical services unit.

Kidwell was appointed a director of the combined operation, which is listed in Oslo.

Braemar is the largest shareholder in AqualisBraemar with 26%, potentially increasing to 33% depending on business performance.

In January, Braemar had identified clearing up the future of its troubled technical business and the appointment of a new chairman as two key factors to attract investors back to its stock.

Both have now been addressed, with Series taking over the chairman’s role.

But now the search begins for a new boss.
