The Tsakos family’s private shipping arm is continuing to shake out aframaxes that are more than 15 years old, selling its second vintage vessel in a matter of weeks.

Managers at Tsakos Shipping & Trading confirmed the 107,200-dwt Olympia I (built 1999) was delivered to a buyer last week. It was the oldest tanker in the group’s sizeable crude carrier fleet.

Some Greek brokers reported the Koyo Dock Co-built vessel changed hands for a firm $7.9m. Tsakos had purchased the ship five years ago as the Atlas Valor for $13.1m.

Straight sales

Online shipping directories list the former Olympia I under its new name, Woong, with Singapore-based Sea Lead Shipping as its operator.

It seems to be the first tanker Sea Lead has been involved with, as the company has only been known to be active in the small containership business.

As TradeWinds reported earlier this month, Tsakos has also sold the 114,000-dwt Pytheas (built 2004). The Samsung Heavy Industries-built ship went to a Scandinavian limited partnership company for $15m.

Oil carriers

The transactions were the Tsakos Group's first straight tanker sales on the secondhand market in years. Its last known sale of this type took place in December 2012, when it shed two ageing VLCCs.

New York-listed Tsakos Energy Navigation has said it has lined up five oil carriers for sale as it awaits delivery of a number of newbuildings. However, none of these vessels appear to have been sold yet.
