Odjfell CEO Kristian Morch is the new chairman of Maersk Broker after Ane Uggla decided to retire after 24 years on the board.

Uggla, the granddaughter of the founder of the huge AP Moller-Maersk group, has been chair for the last nine years.

The shipbroker said it thanked Uggla "wholeheartedly for her contribution and not least her passionate and truly inspiring leadership".

"The governing values of our shareholders and the strong heritage is a legacy of which we in Maersk Broker can all be proud."

It added: "We are looking forward to continuing our development in this spirit and are welcoming Kristian Morch as our new chairman."

Morch spent the first 23 years of his career at AP Moller-Maersk, rising to chief operating officer of Maersk Tankers after the takeover of Swedish rival Brostrom.

During his Maersk career, he spent a period with Maersk Broker, including time as the head of its Hong Kong operation in the early 2000s.

He told TradeWinds on Friday: "I have been on the board for more than a year now, and I was then asked if I could take the chairman’s role, which I accepted.

"The company is more than 100 years old and it is very successful, and my job is to help ensure that it will stay successful in an industry which is undergoing big changes at the moment."

But he said it was too early to reveal details of specific plans.

In an interview in 2009, he told TradeWinds: "You can take a shipbroker out of the market but you can't take the market out of a shipbroker."

Uggla is the youngest daughter of Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller, the long-time supremo of the Maersk group.

Since 2012 she has chaired the AP Moller Foundation, which owns the controlling stake in Maersk.
