Norwegian shipbroker Fearnleys has named Soren Greve as its new chief executive and global head of shipbroking.

The industry veteran steps up to the top job from head of sales and purchase — a position he has held since March 2019.

Greve, who has been in the shipbroker industry since 1988, previously worked for the Oslo-based shipbroking giant between 1998 and 2005.

When he rejoined in March 2019 as global head of sale and purchase, he replaced the highly-regarded Lars Christian Skarsgard, who was named as the new chief executive of Belships a month earlier.

Before rejoining Fearnleys, Greve played a role in establishing Nordic Shipping, where he served as the managing director for 11 years.

He was also a founder of Pareto Shipbrokers and, before that, was also with Naess Europe and Larsson Shipping in London.

Separately, parent Astrup Fearnley Group also announced that Peter Wessel had been appointed chief executive of Fearnley Securities.

“Both have extensive experience from shipping and financial services, and are very experienced in their fields,” Astrup Fearnley Group said in a statement.

“We are looking forward to seeing Soren and Peter enter their positions, set a course, and actively continue to develop Fearnleys and Fearnley Securities further.”

In January, Kristian Sorensen quit as Fearnleys chief executive to take up the post of chief executive at John Fredriksen-backed VLGC owner Avance Gas.

Sorensen had been head of Fearnleys for nearly five years, joining the company in 2015 from compatriot broker Inge Steensland Shipbrokers.
