Greek shipowner John Angelicoussis has returned to DSME in South Korea for more newbuildings.

The yard group said on Monday that it had secured a $380m order from Angelicoussis Shipping Group to build three ships.

An LNG carrier has been contracted by affiliates Maran Gas Maritime and two VLCCs by Maran Tankers Management.

The gas ship is 174,000 cbm and will be delivered by the first quarter of 2022.

Two 318,000-dwt tankers are due from the third quarter of 2021, DSME said.

The Angelicoussis group has ordered 110 ships at DSME since 1994. It has 12 LNG carriers on order there, but no VLCCs being built anywhere in the world currently.

A total of 70% of the shipbuilder's LNG carrier orders come from the owner this year.

The deals bring total 2019 orders to $5.7bn and 30 vessels.

This is 69% of its annual target of $8.3bn.

VesselsValue says Angelicoussis’ 20 newbuildings are worth nearly $2.77bn, putting the value of the fleet over the $10bn mark.

August order

The last Angelicoussis order at DSME came in August, when Maran Gas said in a statement it had ordered a 174,000-cbm LNG carrier to be delivered from DSME’s Okpo shipyard in the last quarter of 2021.

Financial terms were not disclosed for that vessel.

DSME said the LNG carrier will be equipped with in-house designed Advanced Partial Re-liquefaction System (A-PRS).

"Maran Gas is one of the largest customers of DSME, and has ordered six of the seven LNG carriers ordered at DSME this year, and is currently discussing additional orders for LNG carriers," the shipbuilder said at the time.

Cleaves Securities assesses VLCC newbuildings as costing $92m currently.
