Bergen-based EGD Shipholding is in the process of selling its oldest tanker.

Brokers said the 48,000-dwt Susanne Victory (built 2000) was committed to a Chinese buyer for $8.5m.

EGD Shipholding chief executive Magne Ovreaas declined to comment on reports that the Sanoyas Shipbuilding-constructed ship has been sold.

The reported price appears high relative to market estimates, with Maritime Strategies International putting the ship's value at $6.4m and $7.8m.

The premium is believe to be a result of the installation of ballast water management technology last year. The Susanne Victory is due for special survey in March.

EGD Shipholding has seven wholly owned MR tankers, with the rest built in 2004 and 2005. They are all operated by compatriot Champion Tankers.

EGD purchased the Susanne Victory for a reported $11.5m in October 2014, when it was the Siteam Neptun.

Last month, EGD boosted its tanker fleet by taking the 47,000-dwt Sunny Day (built 2005) on bareboat charter with a purchase obligation. The ship was reamed Sunny Victory.

Owned by Espen Galtung Dosvig, EGD Shipholding also has an 18.3% stake in Oslo-listed Klaveness Combination Carriers, as well as minority stakes in three Utkilen-chemical tankers and three Tailwind ethylene carriers.
