South Korea's Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries has announced a new VLCC order from a European shipowner.

It said the 300,000-dwt tanker will cost KRW 112.7bn ($94m).

The Hyundai Heavy Industries unit did not name the client.

Delivery will take place by 31 March, 2021.

The price is in line with other recent conventional VLCC orders.

Evangelos Marinakis-controlled Capital Maritime & Trading has been poised to kick-start the ordering of a new breed of VLCCs by inking the first order for an LNG-fuelled newbuilding at Hyundai Heavy Industries.

But TradeWinds understands this latest order is not the Capital vessel, which has been estimated at costing around $110m.

At the end of August, Hyundai Samho had an order backlog of 3.7m cgt.
