Iran has claimed it has footage of last week's alleged missile attack that left two holes in the hull of an NITC suezmax off Saudi Arabia.

And the Mehr news agency cited Abolfazl Hassan Beigi, a member of the national security and foreign policy commission, as saying its evidence proves the attacks were carried out by Israel, Saudi Arabia and the US.

It will present the evidence to the UN security council "so that those countries behind this terrorist attack would pay for their action," he added.

“Saudi Arabia and the US are trying to put the blame on the ISIL [Islamic State] or the Taliban for the attack, but the documents dismiss such a notion as no ISIL or Taliban terrorists are present in the Red Sea," Hassan Beigi was reported as saying.

Iranian president Hassan Rouhani said on Tuesday that the incident would not go unpunished. He added it was “carried out by a government”.

First photos released

The 160,000-dwt Sabiti (built 1999) was reportedly hit by two missiles off Jeddah, causing a fire and leading to it spilling a small amount of crude.

This week Iran released the first photos of damage caused by the incident.

Initial pictures released by Iranian news agencies showed the vessel's deck, without revealing any damage.

But the oil ministry's news agency Shana distributed photos showing two holes in the ship near its waterline.

These showed similarities to previous images of oil tanker attacks in the Middle East Gulf over the summer.

These were blamed on Iran and appeared to have been caused by mines or missiles.

Sabiti is heading back to Iran for repairs.
