Pakistan is open for demolition business again after three new deals were reported.

Brokers said the 147,000-dwt former Avin International suezmax Navarino (built 1994) has been resold into the country at $380 per lwt or $8.42m.

The 22,165-dwt ship was reported sold as is in Khor Fakkan last month at $408 per lwt.

This will result in a "rather substantial" loss for the cash buyer, according to demolition broker Ed McIlvaney.

Pakistan will also beach the 6,530-lwt, 14,100-dwt MPP Sai Sunrise (built 1989), which had originally been sold at $373 per lwt in Sharjah. The re-sale is at $362 per lwt.

The third scrap deal is for the 7,300-dwt tanker Tala (built 1994), which is 2,605 lwt, at $330 per lwt.

"Finally, after what has been the best part of the year, Pakistan has emerged back onto the market and, following an improvement in the local markets, the recyclers, who have been starved of tonnage, have upped the ante to draw tonnage into their sector," McIlvaney said.
