US-listed Tsakos Energy Navigation (TEN) has fixed out a 10-year-old suezmax tanker to oil major Chevron for two years at a strong rate.

The 158,000-dwt Pentathlon (built 2009) has been fixed at $29,000 per day, according to European brokers.

The charter comes amid rising rates for crude tankers. Clarksons' latest assessment of the rate on a one-year suezmax charter stands at $37,500 per day, up from $28,000 a week earlier.

TEN could not be reached for immediate comment, while US-based Chevron declined to comment.

Tsakos Shipping & Trading-backed TEN shipowner has a fleet of 64 ships, including two LNG vessels. It has 13 suezmaxes in its fleet.

In May 2017, Pentathlon was reported fixed for three years by Koch Industries at $21,000 per day, but some believe the charterer opted to charter another suezmax.

Recently there have been few two year charter deals for suezmaxes reported.

Earlier this month,Indian Oil Co (IOC) took a 2003-built suezmax from the Polemis company New Shipping for up to two years at $32,000 per day.
