Zodiac Maritime is selling an aframax tanker at a strong price.

European brokers said it is set to offload the Sasebo Heavy Industries-built 115,000-dwt Jupiter Sun (built 2007) to Symeon Palios-led Performance Shipping.

The ship is believed to be changing hands for $28.7m. Performance Shipping paid $26m last month for its sistership, the Virgo Sun (built 2007).

VesselsValue estimates the Jupiter Sun is worth $23.6m.

The deal is subject to closing conditions, TradeWinds understands.

Neither the buyer nor seller responded to requests for comment.

The Virgo Sun and Jupiter Sun were among four sisterships that Zodiac bought in 2013 from Cido Shipping.

Eyal Ofer-controlled Zodiac has a highly diversified fleet that includes 16 aframaxes. The Virgo Sun is still on its fleet list.

New York-listed, Athens-based Performance Shipping was previously known as Diana Containerships before entering the tanker business in June, when it bought two 2011-built ships from Maersk Tankers for $30m each.

Performance Shipping has also been trimming its containership fleet.

The New York-listed company sold the 6,500-teu Pucon (built 2006) to Germany’s D Oltmann for $20.5m in September. In August, it parted with the 5,000-teu Pamina (built 2005) to Singapore’s Feedertech for $9.13m.

The containership and tanker owner logged a $18.1m loss for the third quarter compared to a $6.3m loss in the same period last year. The loss this year is largely due to an impairment loss on one ship.
